Winter activities in Salzburger Sportworld
A winter holiday in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee in Salzburger Sportworld is much more than just skiing, snowboarding or cross-country skiing. Whether you are on or off the piste, there is plenty to do.
Enjoy the area in your own style: Winter fun at its most basic: Building snowmen or taking easy walks along prepared paths, get you out and about in this winter wonderland. Why not try out snow-shoeing and follow one of our themed circuits the Country Lores trail or the Path of the Moon. One of the best ways is to see the area is from the back of a horse or cruising down a toboggan trail. There is ice skating and winter curling, Austrian style for vening entertainment. The sportier guests can book an adventure with fun & action sports such as snow bikes or tubing or the more romantically minded can take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow-covered forests.
There are more than 45 km of prepared walking trails that invite you to wander through our wonderful winter landscape. The snow-shoe trails take you through forests and fields of untouched nature.
Discover romantic locations and take a break in one of our cosy huts or mountain restaurants. You can start right from the Hotel or take a bus to different walking areas.
The snow-shoe hikes are a great way to spend an afternoon or evening. Schaidreiter Sport in Altenmarkt offers 2 hour guided tours as well as equipment rental.
Warmly wrapped in a blanket as you cruise in style through beautiful landscape, this is the height of romantic winter fun! A trip out in a horse-drawn sleigh (2 hours if you take a break at a hut or 1 hour without a break) is a great experience during the day or in the evening.
The riding-stables in Altenmarkt offer a range of riding experiences including riding out through the wonderful snow covered landscape around Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, along prepared bridleways that wind their way through the valleys and up the mountains.
Tobogganing is something really special for guests of all ages and offers a great alternative away from the piste. In Altenmarkt there are 2 floodlit tracks that are open late for tobogganing fun. You can access them the traditional way by walking up or simply take a taxi. You can rent the toboggans directly from the huts or mountain restaurants at the start of the toboggan runs, and Winterbauer also offers Zipfelbobs that are more agile.
The 4 km long Altenmarkt toboggan run down the Hochbifang hill and is lit at night, starts from our own Hochnössleralm where there are regular Hüttengaudi musical evenings.
As long as the temperatures stay low, the ice is perfect for a bit of fun. Take a few turns on the ice rink, play a bit of ice hockey or try your hand at austrian curling. The council grounds with the ice rink and curling alleys are just a few minutes away from the Hotel. The ice rink is open from 3pm dependant on weather and ice conditions and you can rent skates from there.
Every wednesday evening, during the season, the curling club offer a free taster sessions (min 10 people). Every other evening, you are welcome to reserve an alley and give it a go.
